Chandigarh residents splurge on VIP car numbers

A new fad has recently started in Chandigarh, India. Car owners have become more and more intrigued and interested in getting VIP car numbers. Custom license plates have gone for over 900,00 rupees and people are paying outrageous rates just to customize their car. The Registration and Licensing Authority has generated a ton of revenue from these plate sales alone.

Kielder crowds driven wild by Pirelli Vintage Car Rally

A crowd of around eight thousand people turned out for the Pirelli Vintage Rally Kielder Water and Forest Park. The rally has been held annually since 1975, with the latest believed to be the biggest event yet. A field of fifty cars with different customised number plates participated, coming from all over the UK and Ireland. Not only was the rally a fun time for everyone involved, but it also provided a boost for the local economy.

Classic car surprise

Michael Smith, of Fairfield Township, was surprised to receive a call from the General Motors president – who asked Michael if they could borrow his 1965 Chevrolet 409 Impala for GM’s unveiling of their new 2014 Impala. Smith, who had spent countless hours restoring his Impala with custom plates, was delighted at the offer. His car has won many awards and is said to be worth over $120,000.

Virginia DMV revokes man’s customized ‘FOSAMA’ license plates

A Virginia man was forced by the Virginia DMV to change his license plates that previously read “F.OSAMA”, that he requested shortly after the 9/11 incident in a display of patriotism.

The DMV has issued him new customised number plates, containing the numbers “666″ in succession, and the resident is insulted by the phrase churned out on his new license plates. He will challenge the revocation of his original plates, and also request a new set replacing his “666″ plates.

In the Road Warrior column, Dan Hartzell answers reader questions about transportation issues. Readers asked if tinted custom license plate covers are legal in Pennsylvania, since they often obscure the license plate numbers. Hartzell asked a state PA police spokesman. He said that plate covers or chemical sprays designed to obscure plate numbers or hinder red-light cameras are illegal. Clear license plate covers are allowed, but they become illegal if they become cloudy over time. Fines start at $100.

A roundup of legislative and Capitol news items of interest for Thursday …

A recent vote by the Iowa legislative has announced that Iowa will now begin issuing 500 “Choose Life” custom license plates yearly. These specialty plates will not begin production until all 500 plates have been per-ordered. Currently, Iowa has over 60 specialty plates, from military plates to plates for different universities and colleges.

Dragone Classic Motorcars to host auction on May 19

The Dragone Classic Motorcars Company, hosted by brother Manny and George Dragone, is set to showcase 50 antique classic cars with custom number plates for auction, on May 19th. The collection includes rare classics such as a 1931 Dusenberg but also includes “barn find” autos for sale – untouched and complete with dirty windows.

Secure yourself a classic car at Le Mans auction

Three classic vehicles from the 1990’s are expected to be auctioned off for large sums of money at the Le Mans Classic event in July. Among them are the Peugeot 905B from 1991 – which saw many revisions but was ultimately retired in 1993. It is expected to reach at least 700,000 Euro in bidding. Other classic such as the 1973 Porsche 911 2.7 RS>, and the 1983 Lancia 037 Rally Stradale are up for auction as well together with its customised number plates.
