Celebration of classic cars in Gateway

This event will be held at Gateway Canyons Resort and will be a fundraiser to benefit kids in Mesa County.

Doing the right thing: Widower sells precious cars to feed starving children

A 77 year old widower has decided to sell his impressive collection of antique and vintage cars with vintage number plates. He says that while reading a book dealing with the suffering of children around the world dying of hunger, God spoke to him and told him to sell his cars. The auction for his seven cars, ten tractors, and a horse buggy takes place May 30.

‘Cars and Cornmeal’ event to debut at Francis Mill

In a 125th anniversary celebration, the Francis Mill Preservation Society is putting on an event called “Cars and Cornmeal.” This event is a pre-1972 car show and is being held on May 19 and will not only feature cars but also local crafts, cheap number plates, barbecue and a tour of the restored Francis Grist Mill. The festivities, being held at the mill in Waynesville, begin at 8am. Registration is $10 and spectator tickets are $5.

Seinfeld returning to TV with ‘Comics and Cars’

Jerry Seinfeld has been working on a new TV show, the details of which are largely being kept a secret. A few details have finally been released. The show may be titled “Comics and Cars,” and it is a reality show featuring celebrities such as Alec Baldwin, Ricky Gervais and Larry David. The show is to feature Seinfeld and his comedian friends rehashing old memories and test driving cars with vanity plates they used to own.

Lux life for molester Rathore, buys number plate for Rs. 9 lakh

Convicted child molester Rathore spends Rs. 9,05,001 on a custom license plate for his wife’s new luxury Mercedes. He feels that his wife is number one, so he bought her the number one plate in a series to show this. Rathore is a former cop who was convicted of child molestation in 1990 and didn’t serve his jail sentence until 20 years later.

Proposal to raise taxes on vintage cars sparks debate

There are 47,730 automobiles across Connecticut registered in the Early American plate program. Cars in this program get special custom license plate and are worth a fortune however they can’t be taxed at assessed values exceeding $500. Currently there is a big debate as to weather or not that should be changed.

Classic car surprise

Michael Smith, of Fairfield Township, was surprised to receive a call from the General Motors president – who asked Michael if they could borrow his 1965 Chevrolet 409 Impala for GM’s unveiling of their new 2014 Impala. Smith, who had spent countless hours restoring his Impala with custom plates, was delighted at the offer. His car has won many awards and is said to be worth over $120,000.

A roundup of legislative and Capitol news items of interest for Thursday …

A recent vote by the Iowa legislative has announced that Iowa will now begin issuing 500 “Choose Life” custom license plates yearly. These specialty plates will not begin production until all 500 plates have been per-ordered. Currently, Iowa has over 60 specialty plates, from military plates to plates for different universities and colleges.

Dragone Classic Motorcars to host auction on May 19

A well respected racing family has decided to hold on auction with their old cars matched with vintage number plates. 50 different antique cars are being sold. A yellow 1911 Stanley Steamer is one of the many unique cars up for auction. All of the cars are in wonderful condition and will go fast.
