After a string of 17 car customised number plates were stolen in the town of Consett in Durham, police are urging motorists to take precautions to make your number plate “theft proof”. Stolen plates are often used to change the identity of stolen cars which can then be sold. They can also be used to disguise the vehicle which are used in various crimes. By using “theft resistant” products which can withstand attacks or even shatter if they are removed, residents can protect their vehicle’s plates from being stolen.
